Larry Semon is much better than some people would think...

... and that's the reason why I am researching his life and artistic work.

Silent Lives, a new great book on Silent Stars is on the market. It was written by Lon Davis. Here's a pdf with more info.

Welcome to my website which is dedicated to silent screen comedian Lawrence "Larry" Semon (1889-1928). Feel free to browse the Semon Picture Gallery or the publications and links which are listed in the left hand margin.

Unfortunately only Semon's later films such as THE WIZARD OF OZ (1925) and A SIMPLE SAP (1928) are easily available. That's probably the reason why he is largely remembered for his worst films and does not rank highly in the esteem of many film historians.

After becoming familiar with most of the films he produced between 1918 and 1924, notably PLUCK & PLOTTERS (1918), THE SHOW (1921) and LIGHTNING LOVE (1923), I realised that Larry Semon is a sparkling artist who does not deserve either to be ignored or judged as untalented.

My goal is to write a biography that rectifies the prejudices against Semon (e.g. his alleged aversion to share the screen with others), details his considerable and varied talents while also focusing on Larry Semon the man.

I'd be grateful for any kind of assistance in this matter (for it is far from easy to research Semon), be it photographs, posters, newspaper clippings, footage, addresses of knowledgeable people or even personal items.
